What is Toshima-Tsubaki oil?
Toshima-Tsubaki (利島椿記) is 100% pure Tsubaki (Camellia) oil, extracted from seeds of Yabu-Tsubaki (Native-grown Tsubaki) trees in Toshima village. Toshima Tsubaki oil is wonderfully healthy as 80-90 % of its fatty acids are composed of oleic fatty acid, which has many health benefits:
- Lower cholesterol levels : it can lower total cholesterol levels by reducing low-density lipoproteins (LDL), also known as the “bad” cholesterol
- Help you burn fat: Oleic acid increases fat burning which means that your body is more efficient at using fat as fuel.
- Relief from constipation: Oleic acid’s emulsification helps to clean out the gastrointestinal system, allowing the colon to work efficiently.
Toshima-Tsubaki is ideal for high-heat applications such as Tempura.
It is also good to use for salad dressing.
Mixed salad with Toshima-Tsubaki oil dressing
1 tbsp balsamic vinegar
1 tbsp honey
1/2 tsp salt
2 tbsp Toshima-Tsubaki oil
Pepper to taste
1.Serve your favorite vegetables
2.Combine balsamic vinegar, honey and salt in a bowl, and then put it on the salad
3.Sprinkle on Toshima-Tsubaki oil and pepper
About Toshima village
Toshima Island is one of the smallest islands in the Izu Island chain, and lies 147km away from the central Tokyo. As 80% of the island is covered by tsubaki forests, 100% pure Tsubaki (Camellia) oil can be produced, and the forest is perfectly managed by Toshima people.
